About the role:
This is an entry level role for a fixed term of 6 months during the peak dairy season, from July to January. This role is part of the wider operations & service team and will report to the Laboratory Team Leader in GeneMark.
Based in the Lab at Riverlea, your role will be to assist in preparing and testing animal samples for the GeneMark Laboratory and contribute to running a profitable commercial laboratory services business.
Alongside this you will assist in maintaining the operation of the laboratory within the required ISO standards, including the maintenance and calibration of the laboratory
equipment. You will be required to comply with all Laboratory procedures including all Health and Safety legislation.
Your Key Focus:
- Accurate and reliable receipting and preparation of samples according to Laboratory SOPs.
- Help maintain all laboratory equipment at an acceptable operational state through defined proactive maintenance programmes.
- Liaise with other laboratory staff to ensure seamless processing of samples through the Diagnostics laboratories.
- Make sure that adequate supplies of laboratory consumables and washed laboratory ware are available on a daily basis.
- Ensure laboratory work areas are clean, contamination-free, and tidy.
- Help to maintain ISO 17025 quality standards for all laboratory practices.
- Help maintain continuous improvement programmes throughout the Laboratory to improve efficiencies and reduce operational costs
About You:
We are seeking candidates who possess the following attributes:
- Good interpersonal communication skills.
- Knowledge of laboratory processes and procedures.
- A Tertiary Qualification in science is preferred, but not essential.
- Ability to effectively problem solve laboratory equipment.
- Knowledge and operational experience with ISO 17025 is preferred.
- High attention to detail.
