Service Technician - Laboratory Equipment
Keep LIC’s herd testing and animal health labs running smoothly by maintaining specialist equipment, solving technical faults and supporting New Zealand farmers.
We usually respond within two weeks
LIC is a farmer-owned co-operative that’s been supporting herd improvement in New Zealand’s dairy sector for more than 115 years. We’re focused on providing superior genetics, reliable testing and diagnostics, integrated on-farm software, and great customer service, all designed to help farmers make smarter decisions every day.
As a proud generational co-operative, we’re here for farmers, their families, and rural communities, not just for today, but for the future. And none of it happens without our people. Whether on farm, in the lab, or behind the scenes, every one of us plays a part in helping New Zealand farmers succeed.
Your Role:
Reporting to the Technical Services Manager, you'll be responsible for servicing, maintaining and troubleshooting the specialised instrumentation and equipment used in LIC's Herd Testing laboratories. You'll play a key role in keeping our operations running smoothly, safely and to the high-quality standards our customers rely on.
You'll work with a range of specialised laboratory, analytical and automated equipment. Full training will be provided on LIC-specific equipment, systems and processes, so we're looking for someone with strong technical and practical skills who enjoys troubleshooting, learning new technology and making things work.
Your Key Focus:
Service, maintain and repair laboratory instrumentation and equipment.
Respond to equipment breakdowns and fault-find issues promptly.
Complete planned preventative maintenance to maximise equipment reliability.
Maintain accurate service records and quality documentation.
Ensure compliance with health, safety and quality standards.
Provide technical support and advice to operational teams.
Manage spare parts and maintenance requirements.
Work closely with laboratory and operational leaders to support day-to-day operations.
Participate in shift work and provide technical support across required operating periods.
Your Key Skills & Experience:
Relevant engineering trade qualification or equivalent experience.
Experience servicing and maintaining analytical, robotic or automated equipment.
Strong fault-finding and diagnostic skills.
Experience with preventative maintenance programmes.
Good computer literacy, including working with service software.
Strong communication and organisational skills.
Ability to work independently and manage competing priorities.
A collaborative, team-focused approach.
A willingness to learn and develop expertise in specialised laboratory equipment and systems.
It would be an advantage, but isn’t essential, if you have experience with:
Bentley systems (FTS, FCM) and FOSS analysers.
Quality systems or regulated laboratory environments, including ISO/IEC 17025.
If you have strong technical and practical skills but don’t meet every point above, we’d still like to hear from you. We’re interested in people who can troubleshoot, learn and make things work.
In Return:
In addition to a competitive salary, you'll receive some great benefits including:
Extra leave days
Flexible working options
Discounted health, life, income and disability insurances
Access to our employee shares scheme
Wellbeing discounts
Free onsite parking
